missesthestars: (I see what you did)
Tell me City, those of you that are finding out the names of those who cursed you - what do you intend to do about it? Mete out your own idea of justice, blast their names across the City in the hopes of making them pariahs, let them get away with it?

What is the appropriate punishment for a person who acted with such disdain toward the well-being of their fellow citizens? In my world, things like hazing, drag racing, and other activities that could be termed blatant disregard for the safety of others are punishable by the authorities even if they don't result in injury or death. And if they do? The perpetrators face trial and prison.

Did these individuals act any differently when they pressed their buttons? You all saw the posts, people were injured- killed even -are we to let these crimes go unpunished?

And those of you who did press that button? Were your short trips home, lucky souvenirs or what-not worth it? For that brief period of happiness, was it worth the death of an innocent? Do any of you feel you should be punished?

Please, I'm curious. Enlighten me.

[ooc: TL;DR - Promise knows who pushed her button and is considering action, but wonders how far she can go before she's crossed a line. With Niko gone, and still trapped in the City, she's somewhat concerned that her moral compass as it were is sliding off to the left a bit.]
missesthestars: (Black Eyed Hunter)
[The camera hits the ground and begins to record. It's dark, deep in the Underground, and hard to see. It doesn't help that the figure fighting in the distance is clad in black and moving almost too fast for the eye to see. If it weren't for the light colored hair and pale skin reflecting in the dim light, she wouldn't be seen at all.

There's a roar as one of the Underground's more vicious beasts lunges, but it's too big, too slow, and the figure it's fighting is too pissed off to be bothered. It manages to take a bite out of the woman's arm, but she doesn't even flinch. She simply reaches around... and rips its head off.

The beast's body falls to the ground and she stands over it, breathing heavily and staring at it with ink-black eyes. She checks her arm casually, it's healing already and she turns to pick up what appears to be a sword and a cross-bow that she'd dropped during the fight. Unaware that she's been recorded, she simply picks up the device, giving the audience a good look at a blood-spattered face and sharp fangs, and flicks it over to voice.]

My apologies for the late notice, and I am aware that it's a Saturday night, but I won't be at the Blue Light tonight. If there are problems... deal with them.

I'll call... later.

[ooc: Blah, blah, blah, Niko wasn't home, so she stopped by the Hall. Angry Promise is angry, but will respond by voice if prodded.]
missesthestars: (Bobcat Promise)
[The video feed opens to a crash as the device hits the ground and slides under what might be an end-table. There's a soft thud nearby and a rather large, furry paw obscures the lens, batting at the device until a few nausea-inducing movements later, it's out from under the table.

A somewhat irritated-looking female Lynx rufus pops into view. It's worth noting her eys are Promise's signature violet and she is holding a pen in her teeth. The face comes into an extreme-closeup view, stares at the device for a moment, and then a paw reaches out, claws extended. A few more taps and the video goes black, but you can hear the sounds of something hitting the device and some muffled snarls.

A minute later, text appears.]

[ooc: Translation: It appears I have woken up without opposable thumbs. Blue, I will be unable to come into work today. Also, if someone would be so kind, it appears I can no longer reach the upper shelves of my pantry and refrigerator and I am somewhat hungry, could someone assist me?

Button-cursed, for seven whole days! All replies will be cat!text, unless someone wants to come over - in that case, action will be the order of the day.]

missesthestars: (Waiting for Niko)
[The video opens to Promise, lounging on a red chaise lounge, wearing something that makes her look a bit like THIS. She grins at the camera and begins to speak, her usual measured tones sounding more flirty than anything else.]

Hello, again, City.

It's me, me, me, your mistress of the night, your paragon of primal desire, Promise, Mistress of the Night, here to tell you that it's time to party. Come one, come all, but be sure to come for fun, because for one night only my abode is as open as I am, and you know what that means. It's time for fun for all, but most importantly, fun for me.

It's time to feed all our desires so come on out, and have a... bite.

I'll be waiting.

[The video clicks off.]

[ooc: Oh, so very cursed, something between Elvira and a real B-movie vampiress. She's hungry and seems to have forgotten that she's vegetarian. Anyone who shows up at her place is a potential meal, so let me know if you wants to be snacked on. Action threads for those who show up are fine, voice or video for the rest.]
missesthestars: (Watching you)
Niko, I trust that you're feeling better today.

As for the rest of my friends, it's been a hectic month - does anyone need anything? Is everyone well?

[ooc: Imagine this was posted MUCH earlier in the day.]

Due to some recent departures, the Blue Light is again hiring for the following positions:

We urgently need:
Line cooks and chefs
Waitstaff
Porters/dishwashers
Cleaning crew

We are accepting general applications for:
Bartenders
Security

If you are interested please contact me here, or- I'm sorry I didn't order any tea...

No, I'm quite certain I didn't...

Move? Move where?

I will not "Move on down," this is MY office...

GET YOUR HANDS OFF OF ME!

[There's the sound of a scuffle and the audio cuts off.]

[ooc: Mad Hatter Day! Promise isn't cursed, but there are NPC's and anyone else around her who is. Action threads welcome if you're at the Blue Light (if you're cursed, she may try to gently beat you off her - or not so, your choice), or anything else goes, too!]

missesthestars: (Why do I put up with this)
Those who wish for something non-alcoholic may come by the Blue Light, obviously selling beer is a little ridiculous on a day like this, but we have plenty of bottled water and sodas available.

...does this really happen often? Because it's quite ridiculous.

[It sounds like Robin, it looks like Robin, but the mannerisms and vocal inflections are all Promise's as the puck's face fills the viewscreen. She's muttering to begin with then addresses the City proper.]

All I wanted was to get away from the cat and take a walk, not turn into a puck.

Ahem. Well, obviously, I seem to have been switched out of my body along with all the others. If this works the way I think it does that means there's a puck walking around in my body.

Please keep that in mind should you run into me. Conversely, if he's done something to annoy you, don't yell at me, it won't help you any.

[Private to Robin]

Robin, I cannot stress this enough, BEHAVE. No joking, no tricks.

And since the sun's disappearance seems to be related to a curse, do try and get inside before dawn, or come by my place for a cloak. You might have noticed I wasn't wearing one due to the curse. Folly on my part, but there you have it.

...BEHAVE.

[ooc: Back-timed to 6:30 EST because mun needs to learn timezones (again). Replies will be from [livejournal.com profile] someonefixthis ]

missesthestars: (I am better than you)
[Promise's voice is a touch out-of-breath and the following is punctuated with the occasional thwack sound of a crossbow and the screeching howl of a dying minion.]

A few observations from watching the City and the network which may come in handy on a day like today.
  1. If enough little things pound against something big, it will eventually move. Keep that in mind when constructing barricades and don't assume your windows and doors will be strong enough to repel them. [thwack- screetch] They're determined little bastards.
  2. Keep in mind that if the smoke from your fireplace can get outside, the things from the outside can get in.
  3. They are traveling in pairs and packs, if you see one, [thwack-screech] assume there are many more. [thwack-thwack-screech]
  4. Don't forget aerial attacks if you're in the open, they do have wings after all and I can't tell you the number of people I've seen swarmed on the streets this day.
In terms of fighting them:
  1. [crunch] Their necks are thin and weak, easily breakable with a single well-placed strike, or cut with a blade.
  2. If you are lacking the above skills and are a sports enthusiast, blunt instruments like golf clubs, baseball bats, even tennis rackets may be used. Edited to add: Those of you inclined to literature may note that large, hard-bound books may be of use as well.
  3. Guns are loud and make a mess, [thwack] but if you have good enough aim, they're highly effective.
  4. Despite the numbers, the swarms do make it easy to [thwack-screech-screech] hit multiple targets an once.
  5. And in the interest of those who fight with their teeth, the blood doesn't seem to be poisonous, but it does seem to get their attention... and not in a pleasant manner, either.
This is almost reminds me of home. Pity we can't be paid for this...
missesthestars: (Black Eyed Hunter)
The next waiter that tries to take one of MY pens or one of MY notepads will PAY.

In fact? My office is OFF LIMITS. Anyone caught touching any of MY things will regret it for however long I deem it necessary to keep you alive.

[Private to Blue]

I left plans for the anniversary party for you. The redecorating should only take a day, and I talked to the vendors and the cost is reasonable for the necessities for the drink specials and menu. Some reference images, and inspiration are included.

...I would like it if MY folders were returned when you're finished with them.

missesthestars: (Content)
As many have posted here on the Network, a regular job is often difficult to come by. Perhaps I may be of some assistance.

The Blue Light is looking to hire in the following positions:
Bartenders
Waiters
Security
Kitchen Staff

If you are interested, please reply here and I'll be happy to discuss your options with you.

[Promise is speaking on the telephone, her tone light and just a bit...flirty.]

...yes, Doctor, I'm aware of the risks associated with checking myself out, but thanks to the excellent care I received from you and your associates I believe I can manage the remainder of my own care. ...it must have just slipped my mind. I'm so terribly sorry. ...of course, if you wish to schedule that, we may. I would be more than happy to set your mind at ease. ...I'll contact you later, then. ...oh, no, it's certainly my pleasure, Doctor. Don't let me keep you from enjoying the rest of your evening. ...Good night.

[There's a rattle as the phone is set down. And a soft mew that indicates that Promise isn't alone.]

And that, my dear Hotspur, is how one walks out of a hospital without signing any papers or ruffling any feathers.  Now let's see if -- [The device is picked up.] Oh, well, that would figure...

[The audio transmission cuts off and a text message begins.]

Niko, I'm home if you need to reach me. Are you alright? Tony?

Mr. Fitzroy, I hope you are well after your weekend, I hope we didn't distress you too much.

Blue, I should be able to return to work late this week.

Private to Robin )

missesthestars: (Do I look alright)
[From the limited view of the device it appears to be on the floor of an abandoned apartment. A heavy chair leg can be seen, bolted to the floor, with chains binding someone to it. The figure is struggling, and making pained, yet muffled sounds. A mocking voice can be heard nearby - it's the only voice heard in this post.]

Stop your whimpering, it's unattractive and grating on my nerves - much like your very existence. Now let's see how we're doing....

[There are footsteps and the sound of something being moved. The light in the room is cut off and the figure stops struggling. The footsteps move into view and now the voice is closer.]

Tsk, it appears we've gotten your tan uneven, Promise. We'll just have to start again - we can't have you going out in public like that, it would be too cruel.

[The muffled voice tries to speak, and as the voice answers as it moves away and the feet leave the camera's view. As the voice speaks, the sound of an empty bottle being picked up and set down can be heard.]

Really, if I didn't think you'd try and bite me again, I'd love to hear what you are trying to say.

...Actually, I wouldn't, this is more fun. However, I refuse to work a moment longer without a break for refreshment. You know how I hate to sweat. So stay put and be a good little leech and I will be back soon.

[The footsteps recede and a door opens and closes. The figure begins to struggle again and with the sound of what may be breaking bone, some of the chains fall away.]

[The feed opens on a dimly lit hospital room, it's very dark outside. The camera's slightly skewed angle indicates it was left in a chair, forgotten. All you can see is the hospital bed and a sleeping patient, stirring slightly. A delicate hand, owner unseen, reaches out and softly caresses the patient's face absently brushing his hair off to the side. He stirs again and a soft female voice is heard.]

Hush Niko, rest.

[The feed cuts off with a click.]

[OOC: The patient is
Niko, the hand belongs to Promise who actually hasn't been in the same room with Niko since she arrived in the City. Action for Niko, voice for anyone else.]

I must say that was quite the... enlightening weekend. I understand it was not entirely unanticipated, but I still noted the lack of... precautions that were taken in event of the curses. Are there any here who routinely take preventative measures and if so, what kind?

I need to speak to a doctor about a matter of some urgency.

[ooc: All responses will be untraceable text unless otherwise specified. A lady likes to be discrete.]

I suppose introductions are in order since I'll be living amongst you for a time.

My name is Promise Nottinger, and I hail from New York - although I understand there are quite a few versions of it represented here.

Since I've seen on the Network that it's customary to seek employment via these posts I suppose I should post a CV of sorts, even if it is a bit thin.

I have co-managed a small private enterprise providing security and investigative services to a discerning clientele, and have served on the board of directors for the Met for a number of years. Through my husbands I have also been on any number of social committees and philanthropic endeavors in various positions.

I fear there is not much more than that as I spent many of the last years caring for my husbands before they passed away.

[Edited to add: Beyond caring for my husbands I was a nurse a number of years ago, should there be positions in that field, I would consider those as well.]

I am very recently arrived in the city and have a few things I need to settle before I begin to work, but I should be available quite shortly after I evaluate my options. Although I should point out that I am a night person and simply refuse to work days.

Should anyone know of any positions available, please let me know here.
missesthestars: (Not amused)
[The feed opens on a lone figure wearing a cloak somewhere in the City. She removes the cowl to reveal a woman, blonde and brown-striped hair and brilliant violet eyes. She blinks, and quickly looks at the sky and the buildings around her. As she looks around her eyes darken and her brow slightly furrows in confusion, but there's little else to indicate her mood as anything other than calm.

She sees the Network device nearby and crosses to it, her figure large in the frame as she picks it up. There's a few clicks and the camera shakes as she investigates it's settings. Finally, the video feed ends. There's another click and we change to audio.]

I'm unsure who you are or how you have managed to bring me here, but kindly show yourself.

[There's another click, but the device is still broadcasting.]

This is... unusual.

[OOC: After dark, yo.]
